Left Nav – Curated
Left Nav - Curated is a collection of links added manually in the left column of a page.
Links that have been curated and listed in the left had column of the page (not to be confused with filters), that allows users to navigate to related pages or subcategories.
When Do I Use This?
Use this when you want to give users additional relevant links to content that is not a part of the taxonomy. (e.g. DAP experiences, brand showcases, buying guides) This is typically used on soft lines vertical pages and not on hard lines vertical pages. (see research below)
1. Content Consistency
When manually creating links make sure that the link text matches the names of the actual categories as found in the taxonomy to avoid confusion.
Have a header above the links that ties them together.
3. Promotions should not be placed in the left navigation.
There are other components to be used in the body of the page for promotional content.
4. Follow Capitalization Standards
Links and titles in the left hand navigation should all be Title Case.
This is an industry wide standard way of exposing categories as navigation.
Softlines Vertical Testing
Left hand navigation performed poorly for hardlines verticals and Bed Bath Home, but performed well on all other softlines verticals.view full study
